About us
We are a small team of craftspeople working together to design and make beautiful bespoke kitchens and furniture. We care deeply about each of our projects and are passionate about the process of transforming people’s homes.
When we say bespoke, we mean it - there’s no working from a template nor choosing from a set range of styles. The sky's the limit in terms of where you can take your idea and we’ll be here with a friendly face to help you get there.
We are based just outside of Lewes, East Sussex, with beautiful views of the South Downs. We work primarily in Lewes, Brighton and London but will always consider a project wherever the location if we feel we are the right fit for each other.
Our Story
With over 25 years of experience and a journey that has taken him from building Earth Ships in New Mexico to luxury kitchens in Sussex - our founder, Tom Wunsch, has amassed a wealth of knowledge and expertise when it comes to architecture, cabinet making and design.
Having worked previously for a long list of kitchen and furniture designers, he decided he wanted to do things differently and, in 2016, established his own workshop here in Lewes, Sussex.
Now, with the help of a small team, every project is conceived, developed and manufactured here. The workshop and design studio is now at the heart of a thriving community of makers on Bridge Farm.
Our Process
-
1 – Initial consultation
We’ll take the time to speak with you at length about your project and your specific needs. We can either visit you to have an initial look at the space or we can work from architectural drawings. This is the stage where we want to learn as much as possible about the project and what you are hoping to achieve.
-
2 – Concept design
We’ll draw a 3D model of your space, based on our initial survey or your architectural plans. Then we can develop an initial concept, layout and work out a cost estimate based on this. You’ll receive a document with all of our ideas sketched out, a mood board and a guide price, without any obligations to go ahead with the project.
-
3 – Design development
If you’re happy to proceed with the project we can begin the more detailed design process in earnest. You can visit our design studio to talk ideas, explore the sample library and get to know us a little bit better. With your input, we will continue to develop detailed 3D drawings of your project which we’ll share with you. This is all about collaboration - making sure you’re completely happy with what you’ll be getting before we make a single cut.
-
4 – Making
Once the design has been signed off by you, we begin the making process. You are very welcome to visit the workshop to see your project in construction - it’s always exciting to see things come into being after a lot of time spent planning.
-
5 – Installation
The day you’ve been looking forward to - the installation begins. We’re always thoughtful and considerate when we’re in somebody else’s home; working quietly, cleanly, and taking great care of the space that we’re in.
-
6 – Handover
Now the project is done, we know you might have questions or might need something adjusting once you’ve lived with your furniture for a little while. We’re always at the end of the phone and happy to talk.
Sustainability
The most eco-friendly furniture is perhaps the furniture that’s designed and made to last the longest. By crafting our kitchens and cabinetry with durability and practicality in mind we ensure that what we produce will remain in use for many years to come.
When considering the sustainability of our kitchens and furniture, quality is extremely important to us. We think in terms of:
Quality of design – A kitchen or a piece of furniture that has been designed to specifically suit you, your tastes and your lifestyle will be something that you will love using and find satisfaction in for years to come.
Quality of materials – Using high quality, durable materials is crucial in making cabinetry and furniture to last. This is especially true of kitchens, which are subject to the wear and tear of daily life.
Quality of manufacture – When furniture is constructed to the highest standards, without cutting corners, it can be used again and again for many years to come.
Using FSC certified sheet materials and locally sourced hardwoods as much as possible, we try to make sure that what we produce has minimal impact on the environment. We also love getting the chance to use innovative, environmentally-friendly materials, such as Valchromat and Foresso. We finish our furniture with low VOC water-based lacquers and natural oils.
We take great care throughout our design and manufacturing processes to minimise waste. We are able to produce cut-lists through our CAD software which will work out the best use for each chosen material, minimising off-cuts and making sure that everything is used to maximum efficiency.
FAQs
-
The word bespoke was originally used to describe tailor-made clothes and shoes but has more recently come to describe anything that is custom-made to a particular specification and to suit an individual person or place. In that way, something bespoke will be totally personal and unique to you. To us, the word bespoke also encompasses quality - in materials, design and the attention to detail that has gone into its making.
Simply put, there are no templates involved, no kitchen planner tools and no choosing from a pre-existing list of designs. We work together with you to get exactly what you want with no corners cut.
-
Each project is priced carefully on an individual basis, with size, complexity and materials all having an impact on the cost. Our smallest kitchens start at £20,000 + VAT, including design, manufacture and installation. Our wardrobes start at £5,000 + VAT.
We are always very happy to give you an estimate for your project, and we will always do our best to work to your budget.
-
Our lead times are typically about 6-8 weeks. This does vary, so it’s always worth getting in touch to find out about our current availability.
-
Depending on the size and type of kitchen, it takes about 4-6 weeks to make a kitchen from scratch.
-
Yes, we install the kitchens and furniture that we have made. We like to do this to ensure that just as much care is taken over the project being fitted as was taken in the design and making.
-
Bespoke kitchens and furniture do cost more than off-the-shelf options and depending on your personal budget, they may or may not feel expensive.
We take great care over our prices, ensuring they are always fair and accurate. Choosing to buy bespoke might cost more, but it has immeasurable value in the long-term.
-
We work primarily in Lewes, Brighton, London and the surrounding areas, but will always consider projects in places further afield.
-
The majority of what we do is make kitchens, wardrobes and cabinets but we’ve made everything from camera obscuras to 10 metre long single-board dining tables - if you can dream it up, chances are we can make it.
-
We use a variety of FSC certified hardwoods, most commonly Oak, Ash, Walnut, Beech and Elm. Alongside these solid woods, we commonly use high-quality plywood to make cabinets and a wide range of both natural and man-made materials to make doors and other details. We are always on the lookout for innovative and eco-friendly materials to expand upon our offering.
